Er zijn verschillende theorieën over Europese integratie.
De meest bekende integratietheorie is de functionele theorie. Deze theorie is gebaseerd op “spill over" effecten. Het ziet elke stap van Europese integratie als leidend naar de roep om verdere stappen.
